First Generation College Student Initiative
First-Gen@Brown aims to serve as a community and resource for Brown students who are the first in their families to attend college. By increasing the visibility of this identity, we raise awareness about the challenges that first-gen students may face and connect students to work together on initiatives that will support current and future first-gen students. Currently, we are working on making the Brown experience more accessible for parents of first-generation college students by providing campus correspondence in different languages and producing an orientation video providing a tour of Brown to families who do not have the means to travel to campus. For students, we are focusing on mentorship, building networking skills, and crafting opportunities to engage with graduate students and faculty with similar experiences. We focus on easing the transition to Brown, we aim to connect students to campus resources, and we are passionate about ensuring that first-gen students thrive at Brown and beyond.
